Listen to Sociology Alumni and Local Entrepreneur Ali Vervaeke (‘10) talk about Sociology & her career. In this talk, Ali will explore how Sociology can provide valuable tools for questioning and challenging societal norms, and how this mindset informed her career path in unexpected ways.
Ali Vervaeke (’10) is the founder and owner of Verv Skin, a natural skincare company based in the Annapolis Valley. With degrees in Sociology from Acadia and International Development Studies from Dalhousie, Ali draws on an understanding of social structures and systems of power to shape the values and practises behind her business. Through a critical lens of corporate marketing, consumer culture and neoliberalism, Ali recognized the need for sustainable, ethical alternatives in the beauty industry leading to the creation of Verv Skin, which prioritizes clean safe and environmentally conscious skin care solutions.
Pizza and drinks will be served at 5:00 p.m. with the talk starting at 5:30 p.m. – All are welcome!
