The Canadian financial reporting world is nuanced, complex and ever evolving. Most public companies comply with International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) set by the International Accounting Standards Board (IASB). Canadian private companies may choose to comply with either Canadian Accounting Standards for Private Enterprise (ASPE) or may choose instead to adopt IFRS. These standards are sometimes quite similar, but in other cases are very different. We will juxtapose ASPE and IFRS to understand some of the significant differences between them.
This course (and Intermediate Accounting I) cannot possibly cover all reporting requirements, nuances and special topics under both IFRS and ASPE. Instead, the course focus will be to lay a technical foundation that students can build upon and refer back to as they progress through their studies and careers.
