Acadia ALERT - Campus Closed (Weather)

Today, Tuesday, January 27, 2026, Acadia University will remain closed, with the exception of residences and Wheelock Dining Hall, due to the current campus and travel conditions. Wheelock Dining Hall may adjust their hours and any change in hours will be communicated through Residence Life.

Employees and students are not expected to come to campus and only employees deemed essential are required to report to work. Non-essential employees are not expected to work during the closure. Any events scheduled for today will be postponed or cancelled.

Scientific Terminology

The Greek and Latin origins of the technical vocabulary of modern science. For biology and pre-med students, but of obvious interest to students of all sciences. An examination of the Greek and Latin root words in scientific terminology and their combination and modification in English.

In this course, you'll build skills that will facilitate future study in areas of particular interest to you. No previous experience of Greek or Latin, or of anatomy or physiology, is required.

Topics include:

  • Basic meanings of modern terms
  • How these terms were created
  • Rules which govern the formation of new terms

Through the course, you'll gain an understanding of the components of scientific terminology, and acquire basic scientific literacy.
