Etymologists work diligently to explain the origins of words and provide definitions that are as precise and timeless as possible. The English language, however, is a living thing, constantly evolving to reflect current realities. As time passes, words are co-opted and adapted for other purposes and the original meaning can sometimes be lost in a flurry of pop cultural hype.

#AcadiaU alumni here at home and around the world have been united in an outpouring of condolence and support for all those affected by the tragic events in Nova Scotia on April 18-19, 2020.

Acadia alumnus Jim Prime (’69) is in self-isolation right now, like millions of people around the world. An accomplished and celebrated author, Jim has written more than 20 books during his literary career, is a former editor of The Atheneaum, and a regular contributor to our alumni magazine, the Bulletin. Here’s his tongue-in-cheek take on a day in the life of a self-isolator.

Many Acadia students are facing financial difficulties as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. For some, challenges with rent, groceries, transportation, and lack of summer employment opportunities could threaten their ability to return to their studies in the fall.

Winners have been announced in the 35th Annual Educational Advertising Awards, and Acadia University has received gold in the Fundraising Campaign category and bronze for its Annual Report to donors.

In the challenging situation presented by the COVID-19 pandemic, Acadia University is committed to keeping the health and safety of our students, employees, alumni and stakeholders in the centre of the frame. In responding to unprecedented circumstances, we are following the lead of the Nova Scotia Chief Medical Officer of Health and the Government of Canada.
