Acadia ALERT - Campus Closed (Weather)

Today, Tuesday, January 27, 2026, Acadia University will remain closed, with the exception of residences and Wheelock Dining Hall, due to the current campus and travel conditions. Wheelock Dining Hall may adjust their hours and any change in hours will be communicated through Residence Life.

Employees and students are not expected to come to campus and only employees deemed essential are required to report to work. Non-essential employees are not expected to work during the closure. Any events scheduled for today will be postponed or cancelled.

Fundamentals of Finance 1

A combination of lectures, problem-solving, case studies, group discussions, current events and field research are used to introduce students to the theory and practice of corporate finance. The course will focus on the basic concepts of securities markets, financial analysis, cost-benefit analysis and decision-making under conditions of uncertainty.

Prerequisites:
Econ 1013, 1023, and 2613, Math 1613 or 1013, each with C- or better and Busi 2013 as a corequisite

In this course, you'll develop a framework with which to analyze individual and corporate investment and financing decisions.

Topics include:

  • An overview of finance, financial markets, and accounting
  • Time value of money
  • Introduction to risk
  • Introduction to cost of capital


You will be encouraged to thoroughly understand the topics through practice problems and self-teaching.
