Acadia ALERT - Campus Closed (Weather)

Today, Tuesday, January 27, 2026, Acadia University will remain closed, with the exception of residences and Wheelock Dining Hall, due to the current campus and travel conditions. Wheelock Dining Hall may adjust their hours and any change in hours will be communicated through Residence Life.

Employees and students are not expected to come to campus and only employees deemed essential are required to report to work. Non-essential employees are not expected to work during the closure. Any events scheduled for today will be postponed or cancelled.

Updates will be posted on www.acadiau.ca and pre-recorded on Acadia’s Information Line: 902-585-4636 (585-INFO) and on 585 phone system voicemail. If you need emergency-related information, please contact the Department of Safety and Security by dialing 88 on all 585-phone systems, or by calling 902-585-1103.

New study may lead to better health for young people with disabilities

A new study, funded by Research Nova Scotia and led by Dr. Emily Bremer of Acadia’s School of Kinesiology, will identify barriers and provide insight into the health inequalities experienced by children and youth with disabilities.

Building resilience for Hall’s Harbour

Perched on the side of the Bay of Fundy is the picturesque fishing community of Hall’s Harbour. Tourists come to marvel at the highest tides in the world, eat a seafood dinner at the local lobster pound, walk along the shore, and explore the art from Parker’s General Store. Acadia names Nancy Handrigan Vice-President of Advancement 

Acadia University announced today that Nancy Handrigan (’92) CFRE has been appointed the University’s Vice-President of Advancement. Handrigan’s appointment became effective on December 2, 2022. She has held the position on an interim basis since March 1, 2021.

Detecting the spread of invasive mosquitoes and disease potential in Nova Scotia

Taylor Swanburg, MSc candidate, 2023, is surveying mosquito species in Nova Scotia to give insight into current and projected disease landscape of the province. Taylor says, “with over 20 years since the last survey of mosquitos, we do not know what species are currently here and what diseases they may be able to spread to the public.”
