Acadia ALERT - Campus Closed (Weather)

Today, Tuesday, January 27, 2026, Acadia University will remain closed, with the exception of residences and Wheelock Dining Hall, due to the current campus and travel conditions. Wheelock Dining Hall may adjust their hours and any change in hours will be communicated through Residence Life.

Employees and students are not expected to come to campus and only employees deemed essential are required to report to work. Non-essential employees are not expected to work during the closure. Any events scheduled for today will be postponed or cancelled.

Updates will be posted on www.acadiau.ca and pre-recorded on Acadia’s Information Line: 902-585-4636 (585-INFO) and on 585 phone system voicemail. If you need emergency-related information, please contact the Department of Safety and Security by dialing 88 on all 585-phone systems, or by calling 902-585-1103.

Minister highlights new economic measures to help students

Canada’s Minister for Women and Gender Equity and Youth, Marci Ien, and the Member of Parliament for Kings-Hants, Kody Blois, along with Acadia’s President, Dr. Peter Ricketts, and Students’ Union President, Sadie McAlear, met with students at Acadia University on November 9 to discuss the impacts of the recent 2022 Fall Economic Statement.

Acadia University President and Vice-Chancellor Dr. Peter Ricketts has been honoured by the Province of Nova Scotia for his dedication to the field of education.  

At an investiture ceremony held at Government House on October 18, 2022, the Honourable Arthur J. LeBlanc, Lieutenant Governor of Nova Scotia, presented Dr. Ricketts with the Queen Elizabeth II Platinum Jubilee Medal in recognition of his leadership in higher education.

Acadia University President Emeritus Ray Ivany’s portrait was unveiled at a reception in the Garden Room of the K.C. Irving Environmental Science Centre on October 4, 2022. The painting, created by artist Steven Rhude, will take its place alongside former university presidents in the lobby of University Hall.
