An enthusiastic crowd of Acadia alumni was on hand November 20, 2021 at The Auction House in Halifax to mark a wonderful in-person event and celebrate Acadia Alumni Association Board member and Axemen basketball star Ted Upshaw (’80) prior to his induction into the Nova Scotia Sport Hall of Fame.

To have a championship team, it takes great coaches, veteran leadership, buy-in from younger players, commitment to the program and a little bit of luck. Anyone who has ever been a student-athlete at the university level will tell you; championships are hard to come by. Student-athletes can spend four or five years at school and never play in a championship game. During the 2011-12 academic year, however, Acadia was fortunate to have three championship teams; in football, men’s basketball, and women’s basketball.

Human Resources Manager Jennifer Veinot is the epitome of skill, kindness and customer service. Her unparalleled personal approach to human resource management has helped to shape the foundation of Acadia’s success and why she is this year’s Acadia Alumni Outstanding University Service Award recipient.

Members of the alumni community braved overcast skies and slightly wet weather to come together on the Acadia campus October 14-17 for Homecoming 2021. Things were a little different than in previous years because guests at a number of events were required to pre-register, offer proof of vaccination and a photo ID upon arrival due to the lingering coronavirus pandemic, but spirits were high and several activities made the weekend come alive in true Acadia tradition!

Acadia University celebrated the Acadia Sports Hall of Fame Induction ceremony on October 16, 2021 as part of Homecoming Weekend and welcomed football Axeman Bruce Beaton (’92, ’96), rugby Axewoman Andrea Burk (’06), and basketball Axeman Ed Shannon (’79) to the hall.

The Acadia Alumni Association is proud to announce that Dr. Anthony ‘Tony’ Cicerone (’68) is the 2021 recipient of the Acadia Alumni Isaac Chipman Award for Excellence in Alumni Service.
