Scholarships & Financial Assistance

With education costs on the rise, enhancing student assistance is a top priority for Acadia. Each year, we award more than $4 million to students in the form of scholarships, scholar-bursaries, bursaries, awards, and prizes. By maintaining a strong scholarship and financial assistance program, we are able to attract, retain and support our students.

As a donor to scholarships and financial assistance, you can direct your gift toward: general award funds or awards for specific departments, faculties, research, or athletic teams; any existing named awards; or you can create a personal legacy by establishing a named award yourself. Kirk Woodman Memorial Award

Award of up to $6,000 | Eligibility: Geology, Returning student (has completed Acadia University Geology Field School)

The Kirk Woodman Memorial Award is awarded annually to a returning student majoring in Geology, who has completed the Acadia University Geology field school, on the recommendation of the Earth and Environmental Science department. The deserving recipient will be a well-rounded individual with strong quality of character and integrity, viewed as a leader by faculty and peers alike. The recipient must enjoy working in a variety of field conditions, be able to work independently or in a team, and have well-developed communication and interpersonal skills. Preference will be given to a student demonstrating community involvement and one who regularly enriches the lives of others.

Established in 2019, the Kirk Woodman Memorial Award is made available through the generosity of family, friends, colleagues, and fellow alumni. Kirk Woodman (’85) was a brilliant and dedicated field geoscientist who regularly immersed himself in the communities in which he worked. He was a visionary in community-oriented exploration and leaves behind a legacy as an advocate for the social license to operate within communities. To honour his memory and life’s work, the Kirk Woodman Memorial Award will recognize the next generation of field geoscientists who share in Kirk’s love for people, communities, travel, and nature. This award will begin in the 2019-2020 academic year.
