With education costs on the rise, enhancing student assistance is a top priority for Acadia. Each year, we award more than $4 million to students in the form of scholarships, scholar-bursaries, bursaries, awards, and prizes. By maintaining a strong scholarship and financial assistance program, we are able to attract, retain and support our students.
As a donor to scholarships and financial assistance, you can direct your gift toward: general award funds or awards for specific departments, faculties, research, or athletic teams; any existing named awards; or you can create a personal legacy by establishing a named award yourself. By supporting scholarships and financial assistance, you can help to ensure access to all of the rewards of an Acadia education.

The Haldane A. Hynes Memorial Award is awarded on a renewable basis to entering or returning students in a degree program with demonstrated financial need.
Haldane A. (Hal) Hynes graduated from Acadia University in 1979 with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree. After Acadia, Hal enjoyed almost 24 years with the Canadian Forces. As a Navigator on the Aurora aircraft, Hal spent the majority of his career in Greenwood, NS, and was selected to serve as Commanding Officer of 404 (MP&T) Squadron from 2001 – 2003. He passed away in 2004 as a result of cancer, while still a member of the Canadian Forces.
Hal was a natural born leader and truly loved life. Hal held a wide variety of interests and was passionate about lifelong learning. He believed in the value of post-secondary education and it is the hope that this award honouring such a special person will assist others in the pursuit of their own academic goals and endeavours.
The award was established in 2006 by Mrs. Janet G. Hynes in loving memory of her husband.
