Each year, we award more than $4 million to students in the form of scholarships, scholar-bursaries, bursaries, awards, and prizes. By maintaining a strong scholarship and financial assistance program, we are able to attract, retain and support our students.

Established in 2015, to be awarded to an entering full-time student who is a high school varsity athlete showing exceptional commitment to sport. Preference for students from the Dartmouth area.
Alex McLaughlin passed away just prior to his graduation from Acadia University in 2014 at the age of 23. While at Acadia, he played varsity basketball for two years and his winning basket in 2008 secured the Axemen’s place in the Atlantic University Sport finals. Educated in Dartmouth schools, Alex was a stellar athlete, excelling in basketball, volleyball, golf, badminton, paddling, baseball and even bowling. He was male athlete of the year as a senior at Dartmouth High School and represented Nova Scotia on the U17 provincial basketball team in 2007. Alex was quiet and shy with a rich sense of humour, giving love and light to those who knew his soft and gentle soul.
